4.  CHRISTMAS TREE SALES:  We did fantastic!!
a.  A great sales effort and equally nice Christmas Party at the tree stand – and even Santa was there!!
b.  Tim Connolly reports $9123.38 profit, of which Troop 1396 will hold 15% to use for upgrading our Troop equipment and other approved Troop level activities.  The remainder will be allocated proportionally across all Scout accounts based on hours worked by Scouts and adults at the Tree Stand.
c.  Hours worked at the Tree Stand are recorded on the attachment (provided by email).  Please review yours and let Margie Kettl know by email or NLT next Tuesday’s meeting of any discrepancy.  She will provide the final hours list to Mr. Connolly, Troop Treasurer, who will post the Scout accounts.
d.  Thanks again for all the hard work, making this year’s tree stand so well run and successful.  (Margie Kettl / Deb Baron / Matt Clark / Tim Connolly / Others)

5.  NEW TROOP 1396 UNIFORM ITEMS:  Hats and Shirts orders are in and will be available at Jan 12 meeting.  Troop will migrate to the new hats immediately since there are few red baseball caps (cost is $5.00 left in our supplies, and we will not re-buy the baseball cap  – you have the option at this time to wear either hat, but if we have a designated Troop event, you will be asked to wear the new hat.  Therefore, you should plan to buy your new hat immediately next week (cost is $12.00).  For now you can continue to get either the new wicking shirt for $15.00, or the cotton T-shirt for $7.00.  (Christine Wykle / Committee)

6.  SCOUT BIRTHDAY.  Troop and Crew members are cordially invited to the 11am service at St. Matthew’s on Feb 7, 2010, as we recognize the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouting (official birthday is February 8).  Please wear your full uniform and join us if possible, especially if there is not a special service planned at your church.  St. Matthew’s Scouts from our Troop and other Troops will fill roles as lectors, ushers, acolytes and greeters.  Our Assistant District Commissioner, Stan Mushaw, will present the Troop and Crew Charter to St. Matthew’s Council President.  (Tom Bortner)

7.  MERIT BADGE DAY:  Troop Merit Badge Day will be held on President’s Day, Monday, Feb 15, 2010.  Committee has approved buying additional MB pamphlets specifically for this effort, and upgrade of the storage bins to facilitate easy access and availability of our library, to be determined by MB Counselor Coordinator.  (Margie Kettl)

8.  TROOP SCOUT LEADERSHIP:  Please see the new Scout position assignments under Jack Kettl as SPL and Alex MacDonald as ASPL.  Especially note the general guidance for all leadership positions.  (SM)

9.  NEW FEE FORM:  For new Scouts joining Troop 1396, we have a form we use to show the new Scouts and adults the fee structure for Scouting in general and our Troop in particular.  This has been revised and updated with the new information about our new uniform items – posted on website.  The Committee increased the one time Troop fee to $55.00. (versus the current $45.00) (CM / Tim Connolly)

10.  TRAINING:  There have been several separate training emails. Good way to start your New Year is to make a commitment to take the proper training required for your position, Committee Member or Assistant Scoutmaster, and for all adults associated with Troop 1396.
a.  Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required of all Adult members of BSA, and by our Troop 1396 policy, all adults who associate and interact with our Scouts.
b.  As an adult BSA Member, in order to be trained, you must also attend This is Scouting and Leader Specific Training, which is different for ASMs and Committee members.

Yours in Scouting,
Tom Bortner
