In 1983, then-editor of Hockey News, Bob MacKenzie, famously stated, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Even though there is only a 1-5% probably of scoring." I was thinking about that today when I was thinking about the rank of Eagle Scout. Nationally, the average is 4% of Scouts earn Eagle Scout. The probability seems low; yet, we know that we can only make it if we try. Last year, four Scouts from Troop 1396 achieved the rank of Eagle. This year we have already had four reach the rank, with two more ready for Scoutmaster Conferences and four more working on putting together Eagle Projects. The task is achievable, but it takes diligence and drive. To make the shot, you must take the shot.
On my honor, I will do my best.
