As the old saying goes, first impressions are lasting impressions. I have attended many an Eagle Court of Honor where the honoree reflects on a Scout or Scouter who proved instrumental in his ability to learn skills and complete rank requirements. I can tell you personally that these positive memories can extend over the course of a lifetime. The power of positive influence is a good reminder to us as we get ready to host Arrow of Light and Webelos Scouts from across our District to our eJamboree event. These senior Cubs will soon cross over into Scouts BSA, with many hopefully coming to Troop 1396. They will immediately remember who warmly received them at the eJamboree. As new Scouts, they will gravitate towards the leadership that provides them with the necessary training and skills to enjoy the outdoors safely. This loyalty from Troop and Patrol leadership produces loyalty up from the new Scouts and is often the catalyst of lifetime friendships.
Each of you knows who spent time with you to work on Scout Skills and advancement. Be the leader like those that influenced you positively and let us ensure we welcome our potential future Scouts with the kindness and patience that was extended to us.
