In my pack I carry a pair of old switchback Scout pants. I had not worn them in years, as I normally do not change pants during a weekend camping trip. Yet I pack them because they are on the Cool Weather Packing List and the packing list is built on our experiences as a Troop and what we have determined that Scouts and Scouters need to survive in a particular season. This weekend those old pants proved clutch, as the pair I wore from home got soaked in Saturday night's torrential rain. I am so glad I had a dry pair, because otherwise I would have had to wear cold wet pants on Sunday morning.
It is so much better to have and not need than to need and not have. This is the essence of being prepared. I encourage you to follow the packing list closely. If anything, throw in another pair of socks. You may seldom need some things, but seldom does come around and having a piece of necessary kit can transform miserable to bearable, if not downright comfortable. Packing the right stuff may someday save your life.
Be Prepared!
