Scoutmaster Minute-- September 10 2024

Mr. Henry last week touched on mental health. Mental health is an important part of your physical health. Your brain is an important part of your physical body. It is responsible for involuntary functions like your heart pumping, your lungs inhaling and exhaling, sending messages to and from different organs. It's also where all your thoughts and feelings live too. Mental health is a big part of physical health.

I stand before you as someone who actively takes care of their mental health. I have a therapist I talk to weekly and a psychiatrist I check in with every few months. They are key people who help keep me mental healthy.

There have been many times where my mental health hasn't been good and my physical health was affected. I didn't take care of my self: I didn't exercise, I didn't sleep well, I didn't eat well, and I didn't feel great inside my own body.

When these things happen I know my mental health needs attention. That tells me I'm really stressed, anxious, depressed or a combination of all of the above. So I have to remember to check in with myself and take care of myself. There are times where I all I need to do is go outside and go for a walk with my dog to reset. There are other times where I need more help and need to check in with my therapist or psychiatrist.

If you're not taking care of yourself, you're not sleeping well, you're not eating well, and you don't feel great inside your body.

Talk to someone about your mental health. See out the healthcare resources you need. If you need help navigating and finding resources I will be there to help you 100%.

The bravest thing you can do is ask for help.

I will do my best to keep myself physically strong and mentally awake.
