We know from our Leave No Trace principles that we are to "leave only footprints." We are to be reminded that just like in the physical world, in the digital world we also leave footprints. Yet, unlike the physical world where our footprints are erased by the wind and rain, often in the digital world the evidence of where we have trod is like stepping in wet concrete, leaving behind permanent markers of our activity. This is important to remember when we post on social media – we ae free to say what we want, but we are not free from judgement. Those thoughts that we put in writing are often discoverable and are open source to college admissions, scholarship boards, potential employers and security clearance adjudicators. Choose your words wisely, show discretion, and do not post anything you would not want your grandmother to read. When in doubt, don't post anything at all. Keyboard warriors carry no honor so don't aim to be one.
